The National Injury Insurance Scheme, Queensland (NIISQ) funds necessary and reasonable treatment, care and support for people who have sustained an eligible serious personal injury in a motor vehicle accident in Queensland, on or after 1 July 2016. NIISQ is a no-fault Scheme, meaning necessary and reasonable treatment, care and support can be funded regardless of who was at fault in the accident. The injured person must also meet all eligibility criteria outlined in the National Injury Insurance Scheme (Queensland) Act 2016 (the NIISQ Act) and the National Injury Insurance Scheme (Queensland) Regulation 2016 (the Regulation). In line with the NIISQ Act, an eligible serious personal injury includes:
  • Permanent spinal cord injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Multiple or high-level limb amputations
  • Permanent injury to the brachial plexus
  • Severe burns, and
  • Permanent blindness caused by trauma.

NOTE: NIISQ have confirmed that Hydrotherapy will be under the physiotherapy code, whether it is completed by EP or PT

Purchase Orders: Will be completed and sent via email shortly after the referral email - it will look like the below image. Must be uploaded to file, and clients PO# in extra invoicing details. Seeking funding approval – purchase orders When funding has been approved to deliver treatment, care or support to a NIISQ participant, a purchase order will be issued which outlines the approved services. The purchase order will include the following information, which must be included on your invoice:
  • participant name and case reference number e.g. M00001 (one participant per invoice)
  • item/service code and description
  • unit price and total cost.

Your understanding and cooperation during this period has been greatly appreciated. To support you through this transition, we’re sharing a quick reminder of key information previously communicated, along with links to helpful resources. As of 22 February 2025:
  • The NIISQ Agency no longer issues purchase orders. Service Approvals now replace purchase orders for new or changed participant services
  • Existing purchase orders should be managed to completion unless notified otherwise by the Agency
  • Service Approvals help ensure all approved services align with a participant's MyPlan and form part of broader improvements we're rolling out to streamline how you invoice and receive payments from us.
To ensure smooth processing of your Service Approvals:
  • Please include the Service Approval reference number on all invoices.
