Clients may be managed by the Office of the Public Guardian as their appointed guardian.
They are usually NDIA or Plan Managed for billing purposes and tend to have a Support Coordinator. They will have the OPG tag added to their file.
Generally, SCs will call or email to book the initial appointment and will let us know if the client is OPG. Booking the appointment in for approximately a week from this contact is best as it will allow us to gain endorsement from OPG which is required for us to be paid for the appointment. During or directly after the SC contact, create and send a Service Agreement for the initial appointment (+any travel if required), and send this to the SC via email, with a PDF of the SA also attached.
Once this is sent, check in prior to the initial appointment if we haven't received an endorsement back from the SC. It is crucial that we receive this, and we may need to reschedule the appointment if not endorsed. Subsequent sessions must also be endorsed prior to the client attending them. After the initial appointment, the practitioner will request a new SA and will note on there that they are OPG - which means it is an URGENT Service Agreement to complete/send. We will also need to receive the endorsement for this via email prior to any subsequent sessions being attended.
Very occasionally, the SC will let us know that they have received preliminary endorsement, which they will send through to us and we are able to book the initial appt without prior approval through a SA. However, the practitioner must still request this SA as usual after the initial appt.
The endorsement will look like the below image, which we save to comms, and save to client file.
