Redcliffe Bones Program Last Updated: 18/6/25

Redcliffe Hiya Health is currently running Bones Classes Monday to Friday (every day) (current as at 18th June 2025 – I will endeavour to update this if the days/times change - CP)

Monday – 8:15-9:00am Tuesday – 8:15-9:00am Wednesday – 8:15-9:00am Thursday – 8:15-9:00am Friday – 8:15-9:00am

These classes are group classes with a max of 8 people and are \$20 each. If they are covered for group classes by their private health (hiCaps number 202 with an EP or 505 with a PT) then we can swipe their private health and they pay the gap (they need to check with their private health insurer what their gap will be – hicaps numbers provided above)

Now at Hiya Health Redcliffe: Performance Bones group classes Hiya Health Redcliffe is thrilled to be able to offer our innovative Performance Bones Program. This group program uses a comprehensive and evidenced based approach to preventing osteoporotic fractures and falls for older adults. This program is tailored for individuals who want to take control of their bone health, build strength, and improve mobility. This program is delivered by experienced Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists who have an in-depth understanding of osteoporosis. What are the benefits of exercise for bone health? ● Reduces falls risk ● Reduces bone & muscle loss, lowering the risk of fractures ● Improved strength, balance, and mobility ● Improved reaction time & sense of coordination, connected to a reduction in falls risk ● And more!

What is The Performance Bones Program?

1. Gym Fundamentals Class At Hiya health the performance bones group will begin with an introductory “Gym Fundamentals” class that will ensure you receive one-on-one guidance regarding your exercise technique and understanding of the program. We ensure you will not be thrown into the deep end and are well supported!

2. Initial Assessment After understanding the fundamentals of the program, each individual will complete an osteoporosis specific assessment. After undergoing a DXA scan from one of our local providers, an Essa accredited exercise physiologist (AEP) will evaluate your upper and lower limb strength, cardiovascular fitness and balance capabilities. This will help us work towards reducing your risk of falls and exposure to osteoporotic fractures.

3. Group Class Program Once the assessments have been completed you will begin a 12 week bone strengthening training program. This will be broken into two 6-week blocks; one block focusing on upper body strength and balance with the other focusing on lower body strength and balance. This will be supervised by university qualified AEP’s with the goal of this program being to increase metrics such as strength, balance, bone and muscle mass, as well as global health to support healthy ageing. Each individual class will be 45 minutes long and consist of no more than 8 people per class. Smaller sized group classes will ensure you’re receiving quality coaching, and feedback from our experienced clinicians. There is also a distinct social benefit to these classes, as it gives participants an opportunity to meet and engage with new people who are on a similar health journey, creating a fantastic sense of community. 4. Reassessment & Progression Into Subsequent Training Block Every 6 weeks your performance outcome measures will be assessed against your initial assessment results. This will help to determine your improvements over time and will also provide excellent information regarding your progress. Following the completion of all 12 weeks a 5 repetition max (5RM) for each lift will be assessed. From here, you now will have a new “normal” with the strength, mobility, and technical exercise proficiency you have attained from the last 12 weeks.

How do I get started? If you have a recent DXA (bone mineral density) scan please bring that in with you for your first session or alternatively you can provide a copy to for us to keep record of on your file. Otherwise, we can recommend a site specific osteoporosis scan from the friendly team at Bone Compass. They use an ultrasound REMS scanner, which is efficient as well as accurate offering state of the art results including a “Fragility score”. (link below) Book A Scan – Bone Compass (external company – 1800 227 887 ) \$198.00 (30min appointment inc. Scan and Bone Density Report)

From here our Gym fundamentals program will take place 2 x 30 minute coaching sessions where you’ll meet the team and build confidence in performing your primary lifts. Sessions will be run on a Monday + Thursday from 10-10:30 am for 4 weeks, during this time an interdisciplinary education session will be offered to help you understand the value of what we have to offer as well as the 12 week program outline.
